Pomegranate Ginger Whiskey Sour

I received product samples from sponsor companies to aid in the creation of the Flavors of Fall recipes. All opinions are mine alone.

This pomegranate ginger whiskey sour cocktail is like autumn in a glass. It's easy enough to make any weeknight, but fancy enough for any holiday!

I've made a couple of variations on the classic whiskey sour in the past, and this is another one. I love autumn cocktails that contain fall spices. But before we talk cocktails, let's talk Flavors of Fall prize packs!

A cocktail shaker, a bottle of whiskey, an empty cocktail glass, and an ounce of pomegranate juice on a wooden board

So. This cocktail. The classic whiskey sour consists of whiskey, lemon juice and sugar. Sometimes an egg white (but then it's called a Boston Sour). I'm ... not a fan of raw egg in my drink. I leave it out.

This pomegranate whiskey sour variation uses a ginger-flavored simple syrup in place of the sugar, and adds a splash of pomegranate juice. Pomegranate juice is both sweet and tart, and pairs well with both the whiskey and the ginger. It also turns the cocktail a beautiful shade of dusky pink.

Once made, the syrup will keep for about two weeks in the refrigerator. After that, the cocktail is super simple to make. It can be enjoyed on any regular night of the week, but the cocktail is also fancy enough to be served at a holiday meal, since pomegranates are in season until after the New Year.

If you can't find pomegranate juice (my grocery store stocks it in the produce section, along with the fresh juices, kombucha, and smoothies), you can substitute cranberry juice instead, but it won't taste exactly the same.

Or, you could mix it up by making different flavored simple syrups. Pomegranate pairs well with cinnamon (use about 3 sticks in place of the sliced ginger).
