Movie Night In Gift Box with Parmesan Bacon Popcorn Salt

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching — are you ready? My husband and I don't go all-out for Valentine's Day. We definitely don't go out to dinner. It's not worth the inflated prices, crowded atmosphere, and hectic service, on top of paying for a babysitter.

Instead, we exchange cards, maybe a box of candy, have a "date night in" after our son goes to bed. My go-to for cards is always Hallmark, because they have a great selection of cards, from romantic to funny, for all the loves in your life.

Walmart is featuring a collection of Hallmark Signature cards for Valentine’s Day. The Signature collection is a line of premium, handcrafted greeting cards. I chose one that says "With you, I just knew." Inside it says simply "Still do." It really spoke to how I felt when I first my now-husband, when we were volunteers at the local SPCA. Both of us tried to hide our interest in the other, not wanting it to interfere with the work we were doing. But apparently, we didn't do a great job. Other volunteers thought we were a couple long before we started dating!

Seven years later, we are married and we have a son, and two rescued dogs. We've had our ups and downs, like all couples do, but I'm still as crazy about him today as I was when I met him. If not more!

For our "date night in" this year, I'm giving my husband a movie box — a giant popcorn bucket filled with microwaveable popcorn, movie theater candy, and a shaker of homemade gourmet popcorn salt. Who knows what movie we will actually watch, because our taste in movies is so different. Maybe the real gift to him would be watching a movie of his choice!

I find it rather funny that we are so opposite in just about every way, not just our taste in movies. He loves savory popcorn toppings. We have to make our own individual bowls of popcorn because he loves to top his with everything from garlic powder, to parmesan cheese, to sriracha, while I prefer straight "movie theater butter" popcorn.

Everything you need for this basket, as well as the Hallmark Signature Valentine's Day card, can be purchased at your local Walmart. I prefer using pre-cooked shelf stable bacon bits for this, because most of the moisture has already been removed. Using home-cooked bacon could make the salt clump.

I make this in small batches, because we don't eat popcorn very often, and my husband is the only one who uses the homemade Parmesan bacon popcorn salt. This recipe can easily be doubled if you use it often.
